The Metalocalypse (Guitar) Is Upon Us

This post is for my fellow guitar snobs out there who are also into Metalocalypse, the fictional band Dethklok, and the very much not fictional version of Dethklok led by should-be-better-known guitar-hero Brendon Small.

To those of you who fit the above description, we have all the important things and common and are best friends.  Read on.

Here it finally is: the long-awaited guitar designed to capture that delicious thick juicy dark metal tone.  Based on the fictional guitarist Skwisgaar’s Gibson Explorer, I have no doubt the thing is a work-horse of a guitar that will produce the kind of tone Gibson is famous for.  Brendan Small would tolerate no less.

Personally, I’m not rushing out to buy it.  If I’ve learned anything about signature guitars, it’s that the price-to-quality ratio seems to plummet, as the designers are not focusing on being efficient in getting the tone, they’re focusing on a specific setup, and that’s what you pay for.  At the end of the day, Skwisgaar plays an explorer, Toki plays a Flying V.  Small has a pretty awesome pedal board that you can google and learn more about.

We tone chasers know - one gutiar isn’t going to make you suddenly sound like any one guitarist.  Any young aspiring guitarists reading this post, please: show your parents how much this costs, then ask go find a perfectly good, well set up, used Gibson explorer at a pawn shop.  You’ll be thrilled, and your parents will think they won the lotto for a very expensive instrument.

If I did feel like dropping that kind of money, I’m sure the guitar is spectacular.  But that’s not even the point.  The point is that the world finally has the Skwisgaar guitar all us Metalocalypse nerds have been waiting on for what feels like forever.  The world is a more complete place with this guitar in existence.

If I had to trust one man in a guitar recommendation, it’d be Brendan Small.  I don’t plan on dropping the money for this ax any time soon, but if you do, I’m sure you’ll love it.  The price may be high, but I prefer the term “Brutal.”

Rock on everybody.
